orgt,

The dealer I deal with is Peterman Power Equipment (717-249-5338) located at 225 York Rd. in Carlisle PA 17013. Their website is Peterman Power Equipment, Carlisle, PA. I haven't seen their website so I don't wether it's of any use. I buy all of my Kubota parts and accessories here and they have always been good people to deal with. They have a very good reputation in this area.

They carry Kubota, Simplicity, ExMark, Snapper, and Grasshopper as far as mowers go. I don't think he has a lot of used tractors on hand but it doesn't hurt to call and see what they might have.

Here is a few other local dealers you might want to check out:
Sipe Mower & Equipment
Kerry's Lawn & Garden Equipment Center

Good Luck,
Jeff

orgt,
Check out Messick Farm Equipment and Outdoor Power - Parts, Sales & Service. They have a whole bunch of used CC's that look pretty good. They are located in Elizabethtown PA.....huge dealer with a very good reputation and lots of neat toys to look at. I buy a lot of stuff from them.....mostly when my local dealer doesn't have what I need. They are about an hour away from me so I mostly use my local dealer who is only 5 minutes away.

Yup, actually they have a staffer or maybe owner (Neil I think) who seems to contribute quite a bit to tractor forums - which is great, a professional and just plain smart thing to do for a business - and they were on of the first sites I bookmarked when I started my research.

They have a large inventory of parts and they sell both Cubs and Kubs new, but I must say that there are things with their used listings that take away from that mark of professionalism. On any day the compact or LG tracs page shows 2-4 tractors with a price of $0, yet there's a tag number and its shows "available." Also, there's great paucity of information on most machines which is very surprising given the size and age of the company... No rating system, like the simple and oh-so-useful 1-10 scale used by quite a few sites I ran across... no information on any sort of warranty whatsoever... Anyway, this kinda baffles me coming from Messick. In this information age I bet they would register more used sales if each listing was up-to-date and complete. I actually was looking at a few of their machines but that didn't go very far because of all that. I'm farther than you are (95 miles from Elizabethtown) so I don't know how that would work out for delivery, etc. but thanks for the suggestion! BTW I started another thread on shaft tracs, I dunno if you've seen it.

Starting this past spring, the Toro models LX420, LX460, LX500 and the GT2100, GT2200, GT2300 are made by MTD under a contract with Toro. These are the Toro models you currently see at the "box" stores. Toro did this to be able to compete in that price bracket with Cub & Deere, and to have affordable product to put inside box stores where the market action seems to be. Toro will not confirm who makes these when asked, just that they are made by an "outside contractor", however MTD will confirm that they are making these when asked.
The Salseman told me yeaterday that the Toro I was looking at was made by mtd.

orgt,

If you are interested in a shaft driven GT, look at the 2500 series Cub Cadets. They offer a lot of bang for the buck IMO.
How do the prices on these cubs compare with JD,Kubota NH and Simplicity ??

It's too bad the dealer wants this much though. The tractor was still sitting in his yard last time I drove by, so I will give it a few more weeks and see if they take the price down or would let it go for about a grand which I think is what it's worth with over 500 hours.

To be honest with you I'm now looking at used shaft tractors because I believe that's more of what I need for my property. Don't think Toro makes any in my ball park though, that's too bad.
Have you checked out New Holland It's my understanding NH and Toro are both the same tractors.I plan to look at a NH Monday. The dealer offered it to me for $4500.I looked at a Toro at the Toro dealer yesterday for $5200.
Don't know how the NH compares to the Toro as I haven't seen the NH yet.

It's troy built that's made by MTD not WheelHorse Toro.
I was looking at a Toro yesterday and the SalesMan stated that it was indeed built by MTD so I stand corrected.
So now you have a choice : Buy a tractor at the box store or buy the same tractor at a toro dealer for twice the price.

1500 is WAYYYY too high for that lawn mower.

I got a 1993 WH 416-H

16hp Onan Performer Twin
Hydro/unidrive Trans
Hydraulic deck lift
48" SD deck

Clevis Hitch

With 700 documented hours.

The dealer is the one that sold it new, and performed EVERY service and repair since.

Paid 1200 for it. No scratches, no dings, looks showroom fresh.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Heavier Duty line of Tractors the WH or WH/ Toro made were:

310-8
312-8
314-8
416-H
416-8
417-A
520-H
520-8

There were a few other models that fell inbetween there, but they were all based on the same basic platform. With the Side belt Drive, back to an 8 speed unidrive or a Peerless (I think) Hydro.

I got a 310-8 that was used and abused all its life..looks okay, but I had to rebuild the engine. IVe got about 500 invested in it, with what amounts to a NEW engine, and 36" RD 3 blade deck.

Any of the above tractors can handle a sleeve or Clevis hitch and ground engaging implements.

The 267-H is a lawn mower, still well built, but not Heavy Duty.
