I bought a brand new 25HP Foton 4wd tractor from a Chinese importer who had a about 20 brand new ones he had to sell quick here in Auckland New Zealand. This is by far the worst tractor I have ever owned. The only thing in its favour it was cheap. It is now two years old and about 100 hours. My gripes are [1] the so called forward/reverse lever is incredibly difficult to operate and needs huge amount of strength, scared something will break. [2] After about 30 minutes the glass on the dashboard fogs up and you cannot read the instrument's at all. These two faults are common to a friends one he purchased at the same time as me out of the same container. My one has a loud clunk in the transmission, when going forward and back, something must be loose in the transmission. If anyone has any ideas on what it is please let me know. Foton trucks are now being sold in New Zealand, but not the tractors.

thanks for reading.

I am no expert but maybe I can help

regarding item 1 as you are attempting to shift from forward to reverse do you keep light pressure on the lever as you let the clutch up??? If you just try and use brute force with the clutch all the way in you will get nothing achieved???
item 2..Sounds as though your "dealer" either got the tractors from a flooded container or has stored them in the rain for a long period. How I would fix the problem is to remove your dashboard take it to a nice warm room in the house and let it dry out.
Item 3 does the noise in the transmission change if you have the PTO engaged??

Now did you make sure your so called dealer changed all the oils and fluids before you got the tractor???
have you replaced all the fluids since you have had the tractor...re tensioned the head reset the tappets... adjusted the brake and clutch free play etc???? What type of oil did you replace the original gearbox oil with??

thanks for that. There are no Foton Tractor dealers in NZ. They were sold as is where is. I changed the oils. They came out of a container but had been sitting for quite some time. Mine started with a battery charge, but my friends had to have a new battery. The shuttle shift I have tried it all ways. The clunk must be something loose in the transmission. With or without the PTO. I use it for spraying and mowing a small orchard. The motor and hydraulics seem good. The hydraulics run a wood splitter better than my than I have never before had a tractor with a voltmeter and ammeter on the dash and a horn. Very poor quality paint. I spayed it all over to stop corrosion. If it was not for the shuttle shift and the clunk I would be happy with it.

Overfill the gear oil and see what happens. Mandatory for these for lubrication. Be nice to remove the plates to see if the gear oil is spreading in all chambers. There's oil passages for this. Possibly need to take the seat off and the front plates where the shifter is for inspection. Could be linked to your shuttle shift problem too.
