Didn't find a thread more appropriate, so I'll just write my experience here. I swapped the original Foton 404 alternator for a bosch internal regulated one (B+/D+ wires only). Seems to be working well. I spliced into the switch ON positive to feed an "idiot light" and wired the other wire of the light to D+ post on alternator. B+ is the same as before for the original alternator.
I added a cheap chinese volt meter to check the voltage from cabin, it fit right in to the dash in an empty button rectangle. regulates to ~14.2v without any load, drops to ~13.8v with high beams on.
