One of our daughters has always loved cats and has always had one of her own. But they recently had to let the vet put down a very old cat that she'd had for a lot of years. Well, we went over there Thanksgiving Day and found she'd gotten a new kitten the day before. She had just put it loose in the car, Toyota Camry, to go home and it managed to crawl up under the dash and she and her husband had been unable to get it out. Fortunately, it was cool weather so they closed up the car, went in the house, and waited awhile. Sure enough, when they went back out, the kitten was in the car seat and as soon as they opened the door, it made a dash (no pun intended) back to its hiding place under the dash. So our daughter had called the lady who gave her the kitten and that lady had a live trap that she loaned our daughter. So when we went over there Thanksgiving Day, there was that live trap in the back seat of the car, baited with tuna. No sign of the kitten all day. But then later that night, the daughter called and told my wife, they had finally caught the kitten in the live trap, so they got it into the house.

Reminds me of the story of my wife's first cat.
One day the cat disappeared.
That night her Dad made a remark that all the way to work he kept smelling something good cooking.
Sure enough, they went out and opened the hood and that poor cat was a burnt mess on the engine.

In the early 70s a neighbor across the alley had a big black tom cat named Midnight. And as some others have said, she started the car one morning, heard the cat squall, and turned off the engine as quickly as possible. Old Midnight had gotten into a fan belt. Personally, I'd have had the poor thing put down, but she took Midnight to the vet and he did eventually pretty well recover, but I know they spent more than a thousand dollars at the vet. And of course a thousand dollars 40 years ago was a lot more than it is today.

The times I've seen that happen, you couldn't have put it back together with all the "thread" in the world:laughing:

.

Actually, I liked the Felix/Oscar suggestion...

.

If you remember, Felix was a bit psychotic. All cats are borderline psychotics. I wouldn't tempt fate with that name.

My vote....."Mani"....short for Manifold-that would not ring well. In any case good looking cat and by the look on your wife's face-you'll go before the cat:)

She is very friendly and extremely curious. We also have an Akita that is mostly indoors, but has killed a couple of raccoons while she's been outdoors. She is very aggressive to everyone new, and it takes awhile for her to adjust to new people. She does, and when it happens, she is your best friend. So far, she is doing fine with the new kitten, but we are not taking any chances and letting them get too close to each other.

My wife's dog *hates* cats, *loves* to chase them all over the yard. So far I have the upstairs blockaded and that is where the cat stays. Was hoping the dog would get used to having her around but that is not happening. She sits on the other side of the blockade and growls every time she thinks she hears or sees the cat.

We haven't named her yet. Destiny was a top contender, but now it sounds like a band name. We've been searching online for similar names without much luck. Now I'm searching for a name that is synonymous with Fearless, or Lucky, or Meant to Be.

I just saw this article the other day if you are looking for a popular cat name. The funny thing is Bella (#1) is the name of my wifes dog and we went with Stella for the cat which turns out to be #22 most popular ;)
