Tractor
None right now...
1982 JD 1050,looks like it is 2wd and not sure about if it has power steering.

We would be using this tractor on our land in WNC to clear it of brush and keeping driveway scraped.

Price is $3000 and it might come with a bush hog,not sure yet.

No idea on hours or anything else.

So what questions do I need to ask the seller and what do I need to look for?

Thanks.

I have one. I like it. Ask if it has power steering, mine does not, and I now have larger muscles. It's not really that bad, but if you are mowing in tight spots you will wish you had it. Ask if it scrubs when engaging the pto. In order to adjust the clutch you must split the tractor. I adjusted mine and I was able to do it in one morning. It sounds worse than it is. Mine has a little over 3000 hrs and still runs great. Ask about the brakes, they are a little on the pricey side.

Thanks for the reply.

I have emailed the seller back but haven't heard from them yet.

One thing that looks odd to me is the front end in this pic:

It looks to be spread VERY wide,is the front end adjustable or is it simply the picture or what???

Copy the above link or click on it, to see a pic of mine. It was right after I had done a little work, and painted it with rattle cans, and installed new decals.

You may notice that I have wide turf tires on the rear. My front tires are set out wide to match the outside edge of the rears. And yes, they are adjustable. I use mine mostly for mowing and it makes the tractor very stable for slopes and crossing shallow ditches.

I bought mine from a JD dealer and paid them $1500 for it. I couldn't turn down the deal. I had to buy a battery and cables, new front tires, a head gasket, and a valve cover gasket. (The paint and decals were not neccessary, but sure improved the looks.) I later bought a fuel filter/shut off valve and changed the hyd fluid and filter. The 3 pt hitch became very slow but the filter and fluid change fixed it.

I still have less than $3000 in it, but I wouldn't sell it for $6000.

I somtimes wish I had ag type tires on the rear. The turfs are so wide I have to use 7 ft wide attachments to cover the tire tracks. Let me tell you, an 84" rear finish mower mows fine, but the front end gets very light when it is raised. Using a breaking plow is out of the question, the rears just don't work with it.

The only other thing I've done is replace the water pump this last weekend. It was seeping water from the weep hole in the bottom. When I took it off, the bearings were in worse shape than I thought. I'm glad I caught it before it sent the fan into the radiator.

Good luck with your search.

Seller sent some more pics,he doesn't know if it has power steering...

It also includes the cutter attachment in the pic but he also said it needs some 'minor work'....
Side view of tractor, can anyone tell if it has power steering???

Can't see the pic. The power steering cylinder would be on the drag ling going to the front wheel. It should have a couple of hoses plumbed to it.

as far as i know all 50 models came with power steering after 1980, it was an option before then i think. my 1978 950 had it.

Well I haven't ever heard back from the seller....it is still listed for sale but they haven't replied.

The tractor looks well used but it is cheap- $3000 or best offer with bush hog.
