I've narrowed my choice down to Kubota and NH, and after searching around the 'net and the neighborhood I've found a wonderful Kubota dealer here in Woodstock, IL. First, pricing around here has been really discouraging. Very small discounts have left the bottom line hundreds and thousands above 'net prices, and the tax rate, an onerous 8.25% just makes the situation worse. Well, the folks at Woodstock Power Equipment have taken care of the first part of the problem (only buying out-of-state will take care of the tax). Before saying anything about prices, I have to say that Jim at WPE was the first dealer I've visited who offered test drives (I didn't ask, he offered) on the models I am interested in. In fact, on the first model I asked about (2410), which wasn't on the lot, he excused himself to the garage area and before I could put the brochure down and turn to walk out the front door to find him, he was out there with the 2410 running and ready to go. In all, my wife and I both had the opportunity to sit on or ride 4 different models, no rush, and Jim was all ears and no bull with his answers.

Prices? Judging by what's been posted here, what I've seen at Carver's, and the prices I've gathered from other more-or-less local dealers, these are pretty hard to beat:

BX2200, 60" MMM, FEL: $11,750
B2410 HST, 60" MMM, FEL: $16,150
B2710 HST, 60" MMM, FEL: $17,325
L3010 HST, 72" MMM, FEL: $19,850

All prices are plus tax, thus putting them about 8.25% (our tax rate) above the best 'net prices around. But I'll say this, after today's experience at WPE, if it comes to Kubota rather than NH, I'm ready to bite the bullet on the tax and give my business to this fine dealer. What a breath of fresh air! I hope I can find a similar NH dealer so I can make a fair comparison.

Does anyone know if Kubota (or NH for that matter) is coming up with anything in the way of significant improvements to their B, L, ot TC (NH) lines for 2002? If not, I'll buy for spring delivery.

Thanks,

Jim

Sounds good, Jim. As for what's new in the Kubota line, try http://www.kubota.com/prodequip.cfm, although I don't think there's anything really new that would interest you.

Jim, you probably ought to go ahead and pick up that 2410. My research tells me there is nothing new of great signifcance with the B series for 2002. These models were just updated last year when the 7500 replaced the 1700 and 2100 and the 2410 replaced the 2400 and the BX appeared to take up the slack. I think the B series got improved hydrualics, greater 3-point capacity and improved loaders and minor detail changes and a heavier duty hydrostat. I doubt there will be a significant makeover anytime soon and what with JD going to computer/electrical controls in place of hydromechanical I definitly think Kubota is the way to go (my opinion) as long as they stick with levers and simple valves--can you imagine a black box drive by wire loader designed by JD (some exaggeration of course but is this where we are going?). Anyway the price seems real decent and interest rates are great from Kubota right now. Get me one too. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Good luck. J

"Computer-controlled" and "Tractor" just don't seem to fit together very well in the mind. If that's where they're going, I hope for everyone's sake it works out well. Thanks for the reply.

Fellas, I don't know a lot of detail, but I don't think electric or electronic controls are anything new to John Deere; just new on particular models. I've mentioned a neighbor in the past who has 3 Deeres with air-conditioned cabs and I know at least one (maybe the others, too) has a very small toggle switch on the back (outside) of the cab. And that little toggle switch is for raising and lowering the 3-point hitch on that big tractor when you're standing behind it hooking up implements. And the guy told me nearly everything on that tractor is electronic; when you have a problem, you just unplug old modules and plug in new ones.

Your Choice of 2710

Hi Bird:

I'm sitting here with a darned good offer from a local dealer both my wife and I like a lot. In fact, we like him so much that even though we're leaning ever-so-slightly to the TC25D for its creature comforts, if we had to make up our minds today, we'd go with the Kubota.

Here's my question to you: You have a 2710 and from all appearances seem to be very, very happy with it. I've got the literature in front of me, and see that there are some things that come with the 2910 that don't come with the 2710. Can you tell us if any of these things made a difference to you when you were deciding which way to go?

1. Cruise Control (confusing - part of the brochure says both the 2710 and the 2910 have it, part says only the 2910 has it.
2. Ratchet-type 3pt lift rod
3. Telescopic lower link ends
4. Telescopic tilt steering wheel
5. Adjustable weight control on the seat

Can you say what, more than anything else, made you choose the 2710 over the 2910? If you had it to do again, would you make the same choice? The difference in cost is about $800.

Thanks!

Jim

Re: Your Choice of 2710

Nope, Jim, the differences didn't make a difference when I bought my B2710; only because there were no B2910s at the time./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I bought an early 2710 when they were something new and before Kubota introduced the 2910.

The 2710 does have a cruise control (actually speed set, as they call it). You hold the hyro pedal at the speed you want, then push down and hold a small lever under the steering wheel while you release the pedal. It holds the hydro pedal in that position until you either step on the hydro pedal again, or step on both brakes at the same time. The 2910 has a lever to the right of the seat that is undoubtedly better, except that some owners say it's too close to their rear end./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

And the other features, as you mentioned, are included on the B2910, but not the B2710. If I had it to do over now . . ., well, I'm happy with my B2710, but for the price difference, I suspect I'd likely go with the B2910.
