My 4wd on my 2000bd went on the fritz so I look the advice of Mark777 and checked the drive shaft and sure enough it is disconnected in the front where it does into the front diff.I did'nt look real close I had my baby daughter in my arms but it is totally disconnected, just laying there. I did see alot of oil so I'm guessing at the least a few seals will be needed. I do not have a manual ( yet) I was wondering if anyone knows of a site that can show me the diagram of parts in that area? or just explain what that area intails if possible. Thnaks a million.

I guess I should be ordering the manual soon. Then I wouldn't be buggin' you guys.

My JDs (Yanmars) use a roll pin to hold the front U-joint of the
drive shaft to the front axle input shaft. If you did not have an
oil spill, I would have guessed the roll pin failed. But the oil spill
indicates a larger problem, like a cracked axle casting. Of course,
the roll pin could have failed and the the wobbling U-joint could have
beat the **** out of the input shaft, causing the seal to leak. My
drive shaft has a plastic tube that covers it and would keep it in
place for a whille if the U-joint failed.

Check hoyetractor.com. They have some parts pages out of manuals to order from. You might be able to see what you need there.

dfkrug,

Just by quickly looking at the problem i would say that my axle casting is o.k. hopefully. I would think that the seal is probably beat to death.

It seems as if all I would have to do is pull back on the driveshaft, since it has a spring, and put the driveshaft back on the input shaft. But i need a diagram to see what all is in there and what went south on me.
i really don't need my tractor for a few weeks so I guess I will be ordering the manual real soon.
thnaks for the info...

If your driveshaft has a spring, it is different from mine. Mine
is completely encased in 2 plastic tubes with a hose clamp keeping
them in position. This tube protects the shaft and makes the
owner overlook the zerks on the 2 U-joints. I just had mine out
to replace the front axle pivot shaft and bushings. It is very hard
to get grease in there.... Shot after only 750 hrs.
