Found Under Dash

I was away from the tractor for about three weeks.
On Call Weekend, then was under the weather.
This past Weekend finally got back to it.
Ever time that I turned off the tractor I was hearing Birds chirping, no matter were I stopped. I finally realized the the sound was coming from beneath the dash!
Left side of the dash (opposite the throttle) there was is an open slot.
Look inside and I had Squatters!!!!!!

The tractor had been under a tarp, but somehow they did managed to build a nest
Opened the left lower panel, there was a nest inside.

They were promptly evicted!

It could have been worse. Could have been a nest of wasps, hornets, or bees that could have attacked you.

I check everything before I start up for the day, and a couple weeks ago, I kept finding pack rat nestings. I clean it out every time, except last week when I went to reach to get it out. I saw a shed snake skin right behind the nest. I waited to clean it out until the end of the day. No more pack rat nest since then.

Blue birds are bad to nest on scrapers. Dad had a set and raise on a 631 Cat scraper and 657 Cat scraper. At dinner when the scrapers stopped for 30 minutes the parents would flock to them feeding in a frenzy. Then when they parked in the evening they would tend them again.


At work the nest on the JD scrapers right be hind where the ejector plate guide roller stops about 3/4 of an inch from the nest. The scraper only runns a few hours a day and the parents will follow the machine. When it stops for another machine or a break the birds will flock in an out feeding.
