Howdy all,
I am looking around at used UTV's, found this Kawi Mule, here are the specs:

"Mule 3010 diesel with all options; tilt hydraulic dump bed (1200#), wrinkle finish bedguard, winch, fairlead, locking differentials; 130 hours, like new condition, asking $9000. (Cost $12,700 new)
I'm not sure of the year, maybe 2004 or 2005.
I'm forced to sell everything to pay bills. No reasonable offer refused.
Matt"

My thoughts:
I can buy a NEW 2009, 4010 for $9,500. IMO extras (winch, etc) add little to re-sale. The unit is 4-5 years old. Off the top of my head he should be asking $7,500 tops, a fair selling price would be $5,000.

What do you think?

Thanks,
John

utv's, in general, have a high resale value.......they're new, everybody seems to want one, and there aren't many used ones out there.....it does seem to me that there have been more used ones on the market in the last year or so; new models coming out and the economy??

i've wanted a rhino since they've been out but i haven't been willing to pay what people want for them used (a lot like used 4x4 tractors)

as the newer and fancier models come out, people will upgrade and the used market will have some more to help bring prices down......

sorry i didn't answer your question.....it seems high to me, but that seems to be the norm with utv's......

The high prices people are asking for used units was pushing me towards new, but as you said, with this "economy" more used ones should appear.

Here is an example of a RTV900 that sold on Ebay, new it is $12,000 or more (has aux hydro), sold on ebay, only a year or so old with 33 hours for $8,600.

Those are relatively few hours for a machine that old, if the hour meter was functioning the entire time. Still, I wouldn't give him more than half of what it listed for.

I think "asking" and "getting" are two different things. :) I wouldn't pay that much (9K) for it.

I could see the low hours depending on where it was used.

Yes, I was thinking $4,500 would be a good price for that unit.

What year was it? Do the 3010's go 25 MPH like the 4010's.

How do the 3010's differ from the 4010's?

Thanks,
John

My mule was a 2002,they go about 25 mph top speed. Not sure about the differences between the 3010 & 4010.I am sure if you went to the kawaski website you could do a comparsion on the specs.

Like most guys have said I think that he is asking too much. A machine that is 4-5 years old has depreciated a lot unless it has special features that are no longer available. Also if you were to take it home and say the engine blew would he back it up? Heck no. At least with a new one the price has a little piece of mind with a dealer/manufacturer that would stand behind it. In my opinion used equipment (unless you know the owner personally) is overpriced based on all the unknown risks because there is no guarantee. I have bought many pieces of equipment at auctions and mostly good experiences but I feel that I bought a few lemons in my time.
BTW I own a 2510 mule gasser that we really love. I heard that some of the newer models have power steering.
