Framing Nail Gun

" am in the market for a framing nailer as well and am leaning towards a coil nailer like the Porter-Cable COIL350 or the COIL250 . Why? The coil nailers look a lot easier to handle than the stick nailers."

With stick nailers you have the advantage of being able to easily carry the nails with you. Stick nailers are typically better balanced. Coil nailers and nails tend to cost a little more and the nails take a whole bunch more storage space. Stick nailers with the more angled head tend to be easier to toe nail with. On the otherhand, coil nailers have their plus's. More nail capacity, bigger nail heads, shorter bodies and for some reason a little better depth of drive control. I have both and find myself reaching for the stick nailer a little more frequently, but it may well be that I can switch out nails from 8's to 16's etc., so much quicker.

In my search for nails, I vaguely recall seeing 'warnings' for some gal nails that they should not be used with the new PT lumber and that SS nails are recommended. Ever hear of that?

Also, since mfgrs make coil framing nailers and coil roofing nailers, I assume that a framing nailer can not handle roofing nails and a roofing nailer can not handle 'regular' nails?

The new ACQ pressure treatment will corrode most metals rather quickly. Stainless steel is reccomended for fastening, but refer to the manufacturers specs on application. All nailers will only shoot the nails they were designed for, ie; framing nailers shoot framing nails.

This may be slightly off thread but I used a pneumatic palm nailer for the first time a couple of days ago and it really impressed me. It's not as fast as a gun but a lot faster than a hammer and you can get into some really tight spaces with it. For rare or very occasional use it might be a cheaper alternative. Nah!!!, why not get both. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I also used the Paslode nail gun, the one with the fuel cell and no need for air. That really impressed me too. Just another couple of things to go on my wish list.

I have one of these. It worked great to drive the 20d ring shank nails into the pole barn. Sure did save a lot of beatin' with the hammer. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
