Framing Nailer Artifacts Removal Help Please

I took an 18" length of thin walled brass tubing 11/32 in diameter (OD) and made a removal tool.

Clever, I like it

Also, to set the proud nails, I used the round end of a ball pean hammer to seat the nail and smacked it with a 20 OZ masonry hammer with flat face.

Interesting idea, that does create a nice smooth dimple in the wood instead of the hole you create by using a set. It's usually dangerous to strike two hammers together, but in this case it's safe because the ball peen is soft and the mason's hammer is tempered hard.

I'd use a propane torch, at an angle.
Don't point it straight at the nail but perpendicular to it to try and just kiss the plastic to burn it / make it hard.

I was thinking the same thing! But i saw that you did not want to mess up the finish so i thought it was already painted or like hardyboard, then i saw you said need calking and painting ?? But if you not worried about it i think this may be esiest.

Yes the ball end of the ballpeen hammer is working very well. It allows me to seat nails that are driven at an angle; where just one side if the head is proud. It does not make an indentation because you can center it on the head or any side of the head-so it does not hit the lap siding material(true wood), it allows me to have both hammers away from my face(still wearing safety glasses with side shields) and you don't smack your fingers. Ball peen face seems not the worse for the wear. It is a very controllable process I have found. Using a punch/nail set would not be as effective and or as simple and would cause damage to me and the house-Ha Ha.

This may sound way over kill to most-but I have the time and weather is nice: Set proud nails slightly below surface, painted all nail heads with galvanized primer(artist brush), filled all nail head holes with Spackle. Then I will caulk the entire house, then use the super paint to coat. Base color is sort of desert sand and the trim will be a cream white.
