New Framing, I am putting a door in a corner with limited space how many inches do I need to allow for the door trim.

2 studs 1 jack 4 1/2" or 1 stud and 1 jack 3"

Depends on how wide your trim is

3" rough frame return is just enough if the opening is plumb etc...

add 1/2" (sheetrock) to the adjoining partition and that cuts it down to 2.5"...standard casing (clamb-shell, colonial etc...) is 2.25"...with 3/4" jambs and 1/4" reveal...will barely leave 1/2 between the edge of the casing and the finished wall..

For good construction the minimum framing would be 2 studs and 1 jack (2 jack is better). Really has nothing to do with what you need for the trim as even one stud, 1 jack will be plenty for the trim - you will also have a 3/4" door frame also going into the opening.

Been a long time since I took a course but IIANM the code requires the 2 stud/2jack.
