France getting rid of diesel cars.

The french follow no one and no one follow the french.

This all started 24 August 1944 when the M4A2s Sherman tanks rolled down the streets of Paris. They couldn't stand the smell of twin Detroit Diesels or the smell of our combat weary troops, yet we bailed their sorry butts out of 2 world wars.

I had a customer (god rest his sole) who was a tank driver and went all the way to Bastogne, then to Berlin. After the war he drove Volkswagens until he couldn't drive any longer, I know because I worked on them. When asked why his reply was that the German's had flushing toilets during WW2 and the French still crapped through a hole in the floor.

He slept with a 45 under his pillow through his later years, his daughter told me he occasionally woke up after a bad dream in a cold sweat reliving those horrible times.

RIP JJ,

Fred

They've outlawed ketchup in their schools already.

Weren't Shermans (aka Flaming Coffins) running air craft Gas engines?

Remember the pink haze over Los Angeles?

No but I remember those Pink Panther movies! We still get even with France.

That's what I thought too. But (from Wikipedia):"While most Shermans ran on gasoline, the M4A2 and M4A6 had diesel engines: the M4A2 with a pair of GMC 6-71 straight six engines, the M4A6 a Caterpillar RD1820 radial."
The gassers were powered by 975 cu.in. R975 Continental radial aircraft engines, 1100 cu.in. Ford GAA aluminum V8's or (not commonly) 1253 cu.in. Chrysler A57 multibank engines (5 - 6 cylinder engines around a common crankshaft = 30 cylinders ).

Whatever France does you can bet your stars the US will be right along behind them.

I doubt it, but you never know. I heard there are a large shipment of French rifles for sale, never been fired and only dropped once! I know, that's an old one.

I read a news story some months ago that said the smog in Paris was due to high NOx from diesel vehicles. They only recently phased in Euro III emissions which adds the SCR to remove NOx from exhaust. Remember the pink haze over Los Angeles?

The haze wasn't pink, it was dark grey to brown.

If there were, this "person" in the oval office wouldn't allow them in the US. Now if they snuck in across the border he might let them stay....

Any action that lowers the demand for petroleum will lower the open market value. France is a big ticket for diesel, they will let loose a lot of diesel on the market. Petrol companies will have to lower their price.
