my first purpose for owning guns is because i enjoy owning them, shooting them, looking at them, talking about them, spending family time together, yadda, yadda....

my second (should be my first) is to defend my home, and if the need arises, to defend my freedoms and my country.....

if you so choose not to partake of your 2nd amendment right, so be it.....but don't get bent because we choose to enjoy what our forefathers fought and died for!

I know that this is a political thread. You know that this is political thread. Not supporting an extremist organization such as the NRA is not just rolling over and playing dead. Is there no end to the number of guns in the most heavily arm nation on the planet? 300 hundred million privately owned guns and counting. What are you so scared of? How many guns do you really need? Who do you really want to shoot?
Tractors anyone?

Ridgewalker, thanks for that link. My wife wants to enroll in a gun course and most instruction faculties want her to be a NRA member. She wishes that the NRA had a family plan.

LMTC, have you looked into Gun Owners of America? I've been with them longer than the NRA.
BTW, is your handle from Lewis Machine & Tool Company?

Not bent, just very puzzled at the fear. The endless, ever gripping fear. And I have never suggested that your guns be taken away or any such nonsense. I am enjoying my Second Amendment rights. And I am OK about the permits. Do you really need unlimited fire power. Is there no end to the numbers, the ease of getting more guns, the size of clips, the killing power of the rounds that you wish to load, etc., etc. No limit on anything?
That is anarchy. God help us.

Please let me know what limits you would have for other people.
The number of firearms per household. Rifle or pistol. What capacity. What caliper. Self loading or single shot. Breach loading or muzzle load.

I am curious

How long until this thread is locked?

we could continue the usual gun debate forever on here- as per many threads in the past......

i guess everyone draws a line in the sand somewhere....i believe we have limits......there are certain guns that i would love to have, not even for protection of my freedoms, just enjoyment.......but i'm limited by the type i can buy unless i want to shell out some pretty serious $$ for permits and then some serious $$ for the gun....

if you take a quick glance at history (not an in-depth, scholarly study or dissertation) most of the human race has lived in much oppression and fear.....this fear is what i don't want myself, my wife nor my children to have to endure.......i fully understand why our forefathers saw the need to keep government in check and an armed citizenry is the only way to do so......human nature proves this.....as far as i know, no other government declarations have ever made provisions for the people to be in control AND remain in control.......everything is a cycle.......free people eventually cycles to enslaved/oppressed- whatever you want to call it- people........unfortunately that's just what history has proven...we just happen (fate??) to have been born in a country and in a time in which we don't have to endure much of this.....and i'm very thankful for this........

you can call it fear or what ever adjective you choose, but i want my freedoms and i want them to continue on for generations of my family- with none to very little bloodshed....in my mind, that is the way human are supposed to live with one another......

i think it's great that the NRA is offering this.....makes me want to pay my dues just to help, again.....i quit them because of the CONSTANT bombardment of mail and calls.....i like my privacy and pay them to do my leg work.....

thanks for sharing this link....i may give them a call and ask them about keeping me off of ALL mailings ,etc....

No, that's not anarchy, it's this little thing called freedom. People who always had it often do not give a hoot about it - but, let me tell you from experience, freedom makes a significant difference.

LMTC is for Little Miami Trading Company. When I need a group to lobby for my Constitutional rights I realize the battle is already lost. As I said, I will not ridicule someone else for choosing to join/support such groups (in fact, my true conservative nature requires that I defend and uphold a person's right to free association). I found the opening line of this thread presumptuous, as it seemed to imply that ALL right thinking and freedom loving Americans would naturally be interested in a free NRA membership. I believe myself to be right thinking and freedom loving and I have zero interest in an NRA membership. It might have been better stated as "If you are interested in the NRA, they are offering........". JMO.

I doubt there is anyone in this country who does not have a group lobbying for them to keep their rights. It is just whether you support the group or not. I don't mean just the NRA there either.

Thanks Prokop.......You remind us all how important freedom is. I'm not a gun person, but I just bought a 3 year subscription. Some of these posts revealed to me that it is the right thing to do.

If you're going to quote me please make it germaine. I never said there weren't such groups out there, but rather when I NEED them I believe the battle is lost. If I am not supporting them, not advocating for them, not leaning on them as a supposed basis for the exercise of a right, they are not lobbying for me IMO. They cannot be presumed to lobby FOR me simply because they exist.
