Free pond - see any problem?

Here, if you have a gravel pit, as we do, we can use it all we want but not take the material off property, without a pit license. I never thought, it might also apply to soil. I kind of doubt it, as I have never heard it mentioned when soil is routinely taken off site in construction.

I'm very rural, out here. The fact that I have a deep( 80' ) by 5 acre lake right off my front porch has a significant bearing on the annual cost of my homeowners insurance policy. This lake would provide a never ending supply of water. My lake was used by helicopter "bucket dippers" to fight a wildfire six years ago.

This fact and that there is a fire station only two miles away makes my insurance only slightly higher than if I were urban.

Every little bit helps.

I absolutely agree with you on "Good as Gold". That translates to me as "Fools Gold". The last contractor that I used threw out that "My word is my bond" around frequently, even with a handshake. All of that guff turned out to mean exactly nothing at all. A detailed written contract, witnessed, is now my minimum.

Another point is "There no free lunch." Careful with agreeing to a free pond. In case things don't go well, they're harder to fill back up than they are to dig out.

I couldn't agree more. Your word means nothing without a good contract. We use a 42 page contract on our projects; I wouldn't need it if everyone was honest.
