I would like to hear some opinions on what the oil change frequency should be on low use small engines. I have heard that oil becomes contaminated with moisture over a period of time. If that is the case wouldn稚 the moisture evaporate the when the engine reaches operating temperature? I have also heard some say that oil becomes acidic over time. If that is the case why do we not hear calls to change fluids in transmissions and differentials on an annual schedule?
I have a trim mower, water pump, and a JD212 that I only use in the spring to roll the lawn. These engines probably get less than three hours use per year. The oil always looks like new. Do they really need an annual oil change?
