Are these guys trained on what to look for? Some of our inspectors have no clue what they are looking at. Example, they reported through the media that they impounded a 48' flat bed trailer, because the suspension was held together with bungee cords.

They are now clamping down on everyone, but that is a good thing. A lot of unsafe vehicles and trailers have been taken off the road.

Any vehicle/trailer combo over 10,000 pounds must be inspected, and meet specs. Trailer brakes, tether etc.

Do you have annual safety inspections in Kentucky?

The Ky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division handles DOT enforcement on a state wide basis. All the Troopers I know personally are VERY well schooled in "what to look for".

We don't have a yearly inspection per say, but put a commercial vehicle w/trailer in tow on the highway in this state and it will most likely get a road side inspection, probably more frequently than once a year.

I sent one of my drivers out this morning to haul home a tractor I just bought. He got stopped once going and once more coming home! (Maybe the Trooper just wanted to see the fabulous JD4020 on my trailer! Yep! My first ever 4020! 1971, diesel, n/f, powershift, new Firestone radials, new paint, and a long list of new parts)

Just got a new computer and haven't set up a photo program yet. Still haven't found batteries for my old camera, nor have I bought a new camera. So pics are still not on the agenda.

With gas prices continuing to climb, there's a lot of folks leaving the country and moving back into town. It's been easy pickins' finding good deals on decent tractors in the last few months. The 4020....That's another story. I just wanted one and paid a premium for a nice one. I paid almost as much for it as I did my 4440. I've been having more health issues lately. All these new toys and I can't even climb up on a tractor right now. Gonna be on the sidelines for at least a couple more weeks.

Congrats on your 4020:thumbsup:. A classic and a beast all rolled up in one tractor. None of us is getting any younger (I turned 70 last Nov) so when I see a tractor I want, I jump on it since time is running out. Which I think is where you're coming from.

There is a '72 4020, with 3300 original hrs. on it to be auctioned tomorrow, 5 miles from me. Auctioneer had a fellow call him from Illinois last week, and wondered if $20G would buy it. He told him, he would think so... This fellow told him one sold out in Iowa a while back in similar condition for $26G..!!

All of this guys equipment is pristene. If not for the rain, and muddy parking, it would be interesting to just be a spectator...

No use for me to go, as there is no "rust row", LOL...

"Nothing new" OTHER THAN (as I said) the plan to ENFORCE CSA2010 to the letter of the law in regards to 10,000 to 26,000 vehicles in upcoming months. "Good drivers" don't hit the road with trailers loaded with unsecured cargo, bad brakes, improper lighting, ect....THAT is what will be the target on "less than 26000 trucks/trailers.
No argument there. My issue is that CSA2010 was pushed through while the hours of service were retained. There are exceptions but the HOS is carrier "driven" not driver "driven".

"I sent one of my drivers out this morning to haul home a tractor I just bought. He got stopped once going and once more coming home! You don't have an issue with being stopped twice in one day? Let me ask you this, is your rig respectable looking? Was the tractor chained down correctly and obvious to the trained eye? Do you think that the trooper's time would have been better spent on someone with a rag wagon?

I'd rather not have the wasted time of having two stops in one day, but how many days is there with NO stops. It's just "one of them deals"..... Truck is 100% up to date, load chained, everything looking good. Just two DOT cops in two different places, and mere chance stops. They were stopping every 1oth truck unless there was one that looked like it needed to be stopped.

Are they only pulling over commercial?
What if I come thru Kentucky w/ my B7610 and Hudson trailer behind my F350 (both Va tagged and personal)?
Are they liable to stop me?

They'll pull over ANYTHING, commercial or non. The applicable laws pertaining to commercial vehicles are enforced on commercial vehicles.....Vehicle safety laws pertaining to ANY vehicles are enforced on any vehicles. One of the points of emphasis they're targeting vehicles for is looking for commercial vehicles improperly tagged as NON commercial.

My trucks/trailers routinely operate in 3 different states. It's been my observation that police will target out of state vehicles to an extent. Indiana seems to be really quick to pull over out of state trucks w/trailers. (I do have one truck and trailer that ISN'T tagged commercially, and have had it pulled over 2 times in 4 years. Indiana State Trooper explained to me they consider any out of state truck trailer operating on interstates they patrol as "commercial" until you can prove otherwise. Never ran into that (yet) in Kentucky, but.....)
