With just a little bit of time to spare before Easter chow today, I thought I'd start tackling an 8-10" oak needing to be removed on a precarious hillside. With the 2520, the 46 hoe, my trusty Stihl saw and the good old loader forks, the job was complete in one hour flat. Most of the time was spent finding workable positions for clawing away at the stubborn stump.

That 2520 is a great machine and a welcome addition. The 46 hoe is nice and fast. I'm finding a few concerns but nothing I can't live with or improve myself. For example, the stabilizer feet are way too small. They sink right in after working the hoe for mere seconds. It's really odd to me that JD would have them as such.

All in all, I'm amazed at how fast the job was completed.

I know what you mean. The 2520 is a BAD UNIT!

It's almost hard to imagine how much more difficult work around the place would be without it....

They are GREAT stump diggers!

Glad it's working out for you.

Job (s) well done. :) (I like my forks a LOT too ;) )

Can you make some pads of wood blocks to fit onto the existing "stabilizer feet" ?
This time of year around here would take a good size pad to stay on top.

It's spring so things are 'spongy'. Also hoes always dig in a bit, it comes with the territory.

Good luck with the new tractor.

Nice Ensoll,

It's great having the right stuff....never thought about using the forks for stability and I have a set to try out while digging......

My point of comparison is the 260 hoe from my 2305. It had nice big feet on it, double the size of the 46. They barely left a mark anywhere they were used. Plus, the feet on the 46 have bent down tabs on all four sides of them. The 260 only had bends on the sides of the feet so that as you raised the machine off of the ground and the feet pulled inward, they would slice the ground a bit but they didn't completely destroy it like the 46 does with its claws on all four sides. I hope this makes sense.

I'm going to see if the 260 feet can be fitted by some chance. Otherwise, I'll be making my own.

Hi wd, thanks. Isn't your loader a pin on style bucket? How do you swap out to your forks?

You made quick work of that tree/stump!

I don't want to rain on the parade, but one thing I was told about using these CUTS with back hoe, was not to raise the machine off the ground.
Puts undo stress on the machine, should just use stabilizers to stabilise the machine, with at least 1 tire on the ground.

A few years ago some of these CUTS were breaking in half at the main castings, that's why they started requiring full undercarriage.
That was a few years ago so things might of changed.
