Front axle fluid leaks on side hills

My experience has been similar to Eric's. If you travel in high range (3rd), the HST is louder without a doubt, until you get up to speed. But in 2nd range, it is noticeably quieter. Most of the time I'm in 2nd range, unless I'm digging or otherwise using my FEL, then it's 1st. 3rd range is too fast for most driving around my place, the ground is too uneven and gets much too bouncy for my tastes. Plus, I'm just not in much of a hurry anymore. I'm also almost always in 2 wheel drive with the diff lock unlocked.

I have the standard IND-20's on mine, but I doubt that makes much difference at all for the HST "noise" concerns.

The new HST Max transmissions are much quieter than the older HST models. Eric's tractor has that transmission. It is smooth and pretty quiet. It helps that the engine revs for you as you press the HST pedal, that keeps a guy from accidentally mashing the pedal in high range at an idle....which make a bunch of noise.
