Front Axle Fluid?

Correct. But, who asked that question?

You asked why in the world you should wait until 400hrs, and I offered you a reason.
Nope, wrong post. I didn't ask the question.

But....my response was to the statement that gear oil lasts a long time - which I agree. One could infer from your post that the original oil would be fine for 400 hours before the first change. Especially since, as you state, you gave a reason to not change the oil for 400 hours.

My post was to support the idea that a change at 50 hours is a logical choice and gave reasons for that stance.

It doesn't appear that we disagree, just that clarification is needed.

Wait... Are you saying that Kubota does not recommend changing the front diff. oil at 50? That would be a surprise to me. I thought that was pretty much an industry standard.

It was on my 50 hr schedule.

I guess if they conclude that their manufacturing process is good enough, they may determine it is no longer necessary....

Kubota's schedules are not holy, infallible writ, for if they were, there would not exist so many contradictory versions of those tables floating around in print, .pdf, or dealer recommended websites, such as Messick's here: Kubota BX Service

Personally, I'm not much for telling grown, responsible folks what to do with their equipment. Don't care if a guy puts in snake oil, or doesn't change it at all in 400 hours. (which would take most guys on here 6 years to hit, btw)

I merely reported what my dealer recommended and what I decide to do on my tractor. That's all. It's my tractor, as yours is yours. End of story. We shall all live with our own decisions. It is just gear lube, for pity's sake.:D

I have 3 Kubotas and 2 are 400 hrs and 1 is 300 hrs for the front axle. I got the B7500 from my dad and he had not changed anything but the engine oil in about 600 hrs so I done the trans and front x, nothing looked any different than following the manual.

It did have a seep on one front steer knuckle so I resealed the front when I changed oil.

No noticiable issues inside the front gear cases either. The oil looked like new also. ( old enough it was UDT, replaced with super )

He ran his old B7100 over 2800 hours and only changed trans filters, never the trans oil. The steer on that had gear oil it was never changed either.

For all the worriers 400 hours is only about 24,000 miles........would you change your vehicles rear diff at that milage??????

Yes. Check out posts #34 and #35 on this thread. That is what started the recent posts. It is a bit off of the original post but evolved from the discussion.

Not having the 50 hour change surprised me as well which is why I responded as I did. As stated before, it is an economic decision rather than a mechanical one from what I understand. Owners were complaining about the cost of maintenance. That is also why the filter/oil changes have been extended several hundred hours as I mentioned in post #36.

On the other hand, there are those that will testify that their oil hasn't been changed in 20 years and everything works fine. They are most likely right. However. I'd like not to go that direction.

My Dad has has a B8200 that is over 25 years old and he has never changed the axle oil in his tractor, and it still runs like a top.

(In reply to bakersacres / post #48)

It depends on your tractor. Use Kubota filters since it is still under warranty. The fluid sources are more flexible.

Check out the Messick's website for your specific model for what will be needed. All of the fluids you might need can be had at Tractor Supply if independent brands are the choice you make for fluids.

Hope this link works: Messicks Tractor Parts
