Is there a vent tube or fitting on the front axle of a TC24DA? The reason I ask, is that every time I check the fluid, there seems to be some pressure released when unscrewing the cap. This happens when it is cold. I'm afraid of excessive pressure build up as things warm up and blowing out seals. No leaks yet!

I think if you filled the front axle casing with fluid so there was no air or very little air, you would blow seals everywhere. As long as you have the correct fluid level, the air just gets compressed and the pressure is within design specs on the seals. Also, if there was a vent, it would be pretty hard to keep fluid from leaking out unless the vent stack was pretty tall. Many times when I'm using my tractor on my steep pond dam, I wonder what all the fluids in my tractor are doing. I sometimes even worry about the oil in the engine wet-washing the pistons on the forward cylinders. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I have been making it a practice for over 30 years to over fill a bit just for the reasons that Jinman is concerned about on slopes. I have never "blown a seal". If anything would happen, maybe the seal would weep a bit. I can hardly think that any measureable pressure is build up in the front axle. There maybe flow dynamics happening that may make a seal weep. I've never had a problem. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Pressure can and does build very easily in non-vented housings. Overfilling can be bad because there is less air volume, so pressure builds quicker with oil temperature increases.
