Have you considered putting screws into the (R-1) lugs? There was a thread above where a guy put screws into his lugs for ice/snow traction. Another guy says he used to race motorcycles on the ice with screws into the treads of the tires.

I recently got R-1s on my Gravely and put screws into the outer parts of the lugs. Could only use 1/2" sheet metal ones on the small Gravely tires (16x6.5-8). Haven't had ice/snow here since to try them out.

I hung my tire chains on my brake assembly on the Gravely and have sworn off them.

I was gonna put screws in my tires because I've had such good luck with studded snow tires on my truck until someone mentioned what happens to the screw if it pops out of the tire? Most likely end up in my car or truck tire giving me problems down the road. I've never had a flat at home, it is always at night in a bad neighborhood in the rain, so I'm not gonna risk loosing a screw and "finding" it again. I'll stick to my chains.
