Hello all. Well the day is near and I should be getting my new 4410 next week. I have a question. Does anybody know of any attachments for the front that would be handy for stacking logs (as in log cabin building). I suppose a pallet fork. But I was wondering if some type of boom and grapple was available.? Any ideas? Any timber folks out there? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You might consider a grapple like the Green Mt Man has.

I have been stacking tons of logs lately using my 4in1 bucket...works great for that task and is useful for lots of other things too.....

Like one of these?

I've got the BG5 and it is great. I use it mostly to roll up slash piles. With 3000 lbs of tractor you won't be picking up long sections of the really big stuff though. I'd think it could handle log cabin logs just fine but I've never done that.

Steve,

If you go with a boom attachment off the FEL for lifting logs up to higher elevations, just make sure you have sufficient counter balancing weight on your 3PH. Otherwise, it won't take much to tip that tractor's back wheels up.

Good advice from all and thanks. I here you on the boom and counter balance issue. I tell you that grapple looks great. You know I imagine someone should make a grappel that is small width (say 18" to 24") off a boom for just this purpose of stacking logs. If not maybe I'll make one. Also if it occilates it would be really slick. Kinda like the big boys do but for little tractors?.

Thanks again /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Steve, you know, I believe I've seen these booms for tractors and skidsteers but I can't remember where. Loggers would use them attached to their skidders to lift and stack logs. These are much smaller than the ones that are on the logging trucks. They are very innovative attachments indeed. Best of luck in trying to find one. Keep us posted if you do or especially if you make your own.
