Front brakes on a Zero turn!!

Good point. I have been pondering the lug type tires shown in the first photo posted by Gizmo2 since as I said, the one's in photo two do not work well for me. Perhaps the mower makes the difference? A friend went from the latter to the former and his mower works much better with the lugs. I have also thought about going to duals in a narrower tire to increase the amount of ground contact without going past my mower deck.
I think the mower does have influence to the equation. The lug/Ag tire I had in the first picture seemed to work well until around the August time frame when the ground got so dry and hard. They were by far worse than the originals on hills.

I took off the factory "slicks" on my ZTR and put on some tractor lug type. Now I can turn on hills, pull out of muddy spots etc without sliding side ways into the ponds. I just have to turn a bit slower to keep from digging a hole with the lugs because if you pressure it, they are going to dig in. I much prefer the digging in rather than sliding and slipping sideways. I can always go back and kick the dirt back in the hole much easier than I can go get the tow strap and RTV to pull me out of the mud. As for front brakes, I cant see that I would benefit from them now that I have my lug tires.

Here's a pic of who I get stuck. I mow up to the edge of the water, or as close as I think I can get. Usually what happens is I get the dumb idea that if I make one more pass, I can get just a little big farther out and closer to the water. That's when my tire breaks through the mud and turns into a greasy slick!!!!

Once that happens, the only thing to do is get the tractor and pull it out. I re-learn this lesson about twice a year!!!! :D

I never mow when the grass is wet, and I never have any traction problems in dry conditions. I've thought about lug tires, but the factory ones I have will tear up my lawn if I turn to fast with what I have. Bigger lugs would just make it worse.

I just don't get the need for more brakes, or what brakes on slick front tires are going to add when the back tires aren't enough with what lugs are already there and the weight of the engine.

I have to laugh, I relearn the same lesson 2 or 3 times a year. I carry the cell phone with me so I can call the wife and have her bring the tractor to pull me out.:D
Another note, I find I tear the lawn up much less with the ATV lug tires than I did with the originals. The deal is you spin less, of course when you do it does make a mess. You do however need to be more careful in the turning part, you don't want to leave a wheel stationary while turning.

I left about a twelve foot space between my fence and the tree line that surrounds about 5/8 of my property. Because there are always sticks hiding in the grass, I trim that last which often as not means it is getting pretty dark outside. More than once I got to close to the bank and slid over enough to get hung up, lol!

If it's not to bad, I get my understanding wife to work the mower hydraulics so I am not hurting the pumps while I pull with the tractor. If it looks pretty dangerous, I just chain up the ZTR and lift it out with the loader.

Trimming up against a pond? That is when it is nice to have one of those twelve foot wide one wing rotary cutters or an old cycle bar.
