Kubota L 3800
Anyone running front chains on their Kubota? I have a L3800 with rim guard in the rears. I haven't had allot of problems moving snow with the loader but a few times on some ice I went for a spin and moving back some banks on a downhill curve has had its moments. Can I run front chains without rear chains? I just can't imagine the cost of good v chains for the rear.

I have a kubota l2800 that I have been running chains on the front for 8 years no problems.I just have a pair of liht duty car truck chains. They work wonders allow you to steer and keep going in snowy icy conditions. When the snow gets real deep like it is now i run ring chains on the rear in the woods but take them off to plow my driveway they are too rough.

I tried chains on the front of my 5240 this weekend as my driveway has a good inch or more of solid ice base and then I had about 12" of heavy snow on top to clear. The chains are a heavy duty set I keep for my truck for when I go to camp (never know what I'll find when I get there) but they are just regular ladder chains and not the double ladder. The issue I had was the cross links basically fell in between my tire lugs (R1's) and provided zero extra traction. If you are going to buy chains for the tractor spend the extra to get the "double ladder" chains or whatever the style is called that prevents the cross chains from falling between the tread.

Yep,

Running front chains on my 5030 (only when really bad) I've got R4's and find I get some serious traction loss coming up my hill and turning without them.

I have noticed they are rough on the tires; put some marks in them.

Glad I had them after this latest mess! I got 8 hrs of seat time and the chains made a huge difference.

Hey Brimfield, I have a set of chains on the rear tires of my L3800 and they work great. Don't remember the price but I got them locally at St. Pierre in Worcester, shipping cost can obviously kill you. You can pick them up right at their facility. Nice folks, give them a call for a price you might be pleasantly surprised.

I've been running ice chains on the back of my L3400 for 4 years now, they were about $550, made by Tellefsdal and marketed under the Norse name.
No experience with fronts.

I should mention that you will also need to add spacers to the rear wheels or else there isn't enough clearance in the wheel well for the chains. Between the spacers and chains it will add up to quite a bit of $.

That's if you have r4 tires, there's lots of room with r1's.

I will call to see what they would get for front chains. Back chains I might need to save for.
