Front end went clunk

Again pushing snow again, not much load. I dumped the bucket and started to back up and the front axle went clunk. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif So I took it out of 4whd and the left tire locked up. So its in the shop and I took the left front assemble off . I found the gear on the axle shaft has chips in it. Any ideas what caused this? I can take some pics if needed. 1260 mf with 186hrs

Ok I went to the dealer and bought the service book.
Took the axle apart and the pinon gear was wiped clean ring has damaged teeth. PT# 3703258m92 8x32 not interchangeable with 3703258m91 Hope to order parts in the AM. Is there someplace on the west coast still open? Parts will have to be shiped anyway. 1/31/06 7:14 eastern time

Wow. That is the first that I have heard of on a the larger 1200 series. Have you tried Jack's Small Engines . The people that I have spoken with that have ordered from them have been pleased. They are usually less expensive that most dealers. Since you have the part number, you can go to the above page and it will give you the price.

Hi Phil,
Glad to hear that you got your parts and are up and running again /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just curious, did anyone speculate why you had that type of failure with such low hours??? It doesnt sound right to me, and just wondering.

No not really, I did note several theads back about the back tire chattering. So we checked the tire air pressure and it was off. Here is my conclusion Front tire pressure left and right had a differance of 26lbs. now they are even with the tire inflated to the higher pressure it was approximately .75" taller. I also noted when I dissasembled the front axle I only drained approximately 3 qts of oil. Book calls for 6.4 qts.
So the moral to the story is. When you buy a used tractor (little hour or not) Drain and change all fluids. I did all filters and motor oil days after that I bought it. I grease it every 20 hrs. The book said to change the front axle at 300 hrs. So I did not check it. My Bad /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
