I'm replacing the cracked and broken light switch on my Ford 1600. I found a generic push/pull 2 position light switch I will be installing. Here is my question; There are two wire going from the current light switch to the front headlamps; a red and a yellow wire. Do both of these wires carry power to the headlamps? I connected the red wire to the new light switch and left the yellow wire disconnected and the headlights come on when I pull the switch.....what would be the function of the yellow wire? I was just planning on securing both the yellow and red wires on the same terminal on the new switch but I don't want to cause issues so I thought I better seek some advice before I did so.

According to the wiring diagram in the parts book, the yellow is for field lights, but it shows it going to the back implement light. The diagram does show two wires on the headlamps most likely hi-beam and low-beam.

I do have another yellow going to the rear for the field light; I guess I never thought of a tractor having high/low beam headlamps. I will take a closer look at the actual headlamps tonight to see if they are high/low style lights......thanks

For what it's worth, although your 1600 is a little older than my '89 1720, this 1720 does have high & low beam headlights..... :2cents:
