Front Mounted snowblower update

/ Front Mounted snowblower update #11
Richard,
I have been wanting to do something just like this. I have a YM1110D that I'd like to use to mow our 3/4 acre lot. I wanted to put the mower deck up front for maneuverability. Do you have any photos of the clutch assembly and hardware out of the tractor? I'd really like to have more information on how you did this. There are alot of details, like whether you used the compressor shaft, and how you attached it to the crank pulley...

I did alot of customization to mount a YMM45 belly deck under my YM1301D, but I had all of the main pieces already and just had to fabricate the mounting brackets. You can see that work at my web site. I'd like to do my YM1110D from scratch with commonly available parts like an A/C clutch.

Greg;
I wasn't planning to take the front PTO off, so pics might be a problem, but if yu need them I can.
I used a chev FWD hub. cut it down, and drilled it to bolt onto the crank pulley. then I took the matching axle shaft, cut the CV joint hub off it, turned it up in the lathe and drilled it to the sixe of the A/C shaft. Put the A /C shaft into the splined axle and welded them together. Since A/C compressors have the bearings near the middle, I turned the frot housing to take a bearing that fit the shaft. Then bolted the front housing to a plate and mounted it on the tractor frane cross bracket.
the battery has to be raised to accomodate this arrangement, as it would if you purchased a factory front PTO kit . All the rest is up to what you want to drive. No reason it should ever interfere with your FEL.
You've done a nice job of your clutch, but IMHO, the tensioner is too complex.
When I build, I always adhere to the KISS method.
My front PTO can stay on the tractor forever without ever interfering with anything I want to add.
Let me know if you want more info. My Front PTO is a ringer for the Yanmar Kit.
The fun is in making it happen.
All the best.
Richard.

Richard,
Thanks for the explanation. I would never ask you to remove it just to take pics for me. I'm still a little fuzzy on the "Since A/C compressors have the bearings near the middle, I turned the frot housing to take a bearing that fit the shaft." part, but I think I got the basic idea.

I agree, the tensioner ended up a little more complex than I wanted, but the deck instructions were very clear that a significant amount of tensioner movement was required, and I didn't have much room to work. The tensioner moves about 1.5" when the deck is raised and lowered.

I used the front part of the compressor housing to mount to the plate (bracket). Since it has no bearing, I had to put one in it to carry the shaft. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

ducksjunk,
I know this is an old thread, but if possible, could you post some more pictures of the belt routing (i assume that the blower is now belt driven). I'm looking at doing something similar with a blower for the front of my 1602D.

Cheers,
Rob
