Front wheel drive difficult to engage

Verify that your tire sizes are correct and that the pressures are right on. If you have differing pressures than called for then your axle shafts will rotate at different speeds making engagement difficult.

If for instance your pressures in the front axle are low the problem can be increased by a load in the bucket because of the effect of reducing the tire radius.

Yep. What all the others said. Another way to put it into 4wd is to pick the front wheels off the ground with the loader and then engage. Same with the disengage. Remember to think of soothing things while doing so also helps.

Thanks for the notes. I should say, but perhaps it does not change the point, that I have a L3830 DT, direct drive, meaning it is a shift gear.

I have to do the same thing with my geared tractor as my HST.

I have a BX2350, and I engage the 4WD while moving in a straight line.

I don't think that you can damage anything, as all of the components are already moving at similar speeds. I don't think that anything goes from stopped to spinning the instant you engage it.

I could be wrong, but I do know that it slides into position as if it's doing absolutely nothing... like it's a fake lever.
