Re: Help me identify these leaks on my TC18

Dung in last night and removal of the hub was fairly straight forward. I am thinking the seal may have just been dirty. Planning to regrease and reinstall tonight and see what happens. Does anyone know the best way to remove the seal without damaging it? I feel like all I could do is insert a screwdriver and pry it out.

As removed - nice and dirty

I was thinking of putting it back together after cleaning it. I have some Maxima Hi-Temp waterproof grease that i use for my dirtbike and it is NLGI #2 Grade so I was going to apply some of that around the ring. Should a gasket compound like RTV Hi-temp Red gasket maker also be applied?

Re: Help me identify these leaks on my TC18

Put it back together last night and identified that my leak was actually coming from a small crack in the hub itself. I have a friend that is a skilled welder do you guys think that will work or should I try to find a part off a salvage?

Does anyone know the best tool to pull the seal and bearing? Purchased service manual but not going to have it for a week or so.

I'm pretty sure those are cast parts, cast metal doesn't weld very easily. I guess there's no harm in trying it since it'll either fix it or you already need to replace it but since it's an area that isn't under pressure, I would try some JB Weld on it before welding it.

I honestly don't think either one will work as a fix but you've got nothing to lose other than time by trying it.

Can't tell location of pic exactly but if there IS oil coming out there it will be tough to weld. Mating surfaces will be hard to clean. I suppose you could strip the part down to just the casting (forging?) to soak it clean. That said, an experienced welder can work magic sometimes.
Good luck.

Have the hub off but having some trouble removing the cover from the hub casing. It appears there is a gasket between these two.

Picked up a cheap seal puller so hopefully I get the seal out and see if any of the bearings will also need to be replaced.

Welder is a professional and he said he would be able to tell me if it would leak or not. Going to give it a shot. If not I found a case off a salvage for a reasonable price.

Anyone willing to send me pictures of the service manual for removal of the front wheel seals and bearings? Apparently the service CD I purchased is coming oversees and will not be here for a couple weeks.
