front wheels on jd60\"mmm not turning around

I was wandering if anyone has any info on any alternate wheels for a 91 60" mmm on a jd995. When I need to back up or turn sharply the wheels always dig up the turf. The wheels seem alittle narrow but I didn't know if there were any alternates available. The springs are not too strong to keep the front wheels from turning and I have tried grease and oil to free them up but it didn't seem to make any difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good blade replacement for john deers mower?

I assume you meant a 955 tractor and not a 995. Deere never made a 995 to my knowledge. Anyway, a couple of things come to mind. Are you carrying the deck on the wheels? These decks are designed to be carried by the lift linkage with the wheels about a half inch off of the ground. The wheels are only there to prevent scalping on uneven ground. If there is too much weight on the wheels, they can't swivel properly. On the 955 there is a black plastic knob between your legs to adjust height of cut. Set that where you want it, then adjust the spacers on the wheel spindles to get the wheels about a half inch off of the ground. Also, the spindles could be bent. If the spindle is not near perfect in a vertical line, it won't swivel properly either.

ditto jd110's comments; those wheels aren't designed to run on the ground.

The front right wheel on my 60" mounted on my JD 4100 did the same thing. It was especially problematic on new sod that wasn't fully attached to the underlying ground yet.

Even though I have the wheels set a good 1/2" to 1" up, on some uneven ground, it can still drag when reversing.

I have learned the spots in my yard where its an issue, and I am careful when backing in these spots - either I slow down, or raise the deck momentarily.

On the other hand, I also have some uneven places where the deck scalps, so I really don't want to raise the wheels any further or remove them.

I think wider solid decks are really best suited for flatter areas. A multi-unit reel mower or multi-independent deck mower would work bettter on some of the countouring that is part of my yard.
