i have a yanmar 3110 with a vn front end loader. i broke a ram on the bucket and had it repaired at a local machine shop (shurlift cylinder) after i put the ram back in the cylinder i can lift the loader up but the bucket will not stay closed unless i hold the valve open. i thought maybe there was air in the line but have been told not possible, also been told seal around ram but it does not seem logical since i would still have one good cylinder on the other side and the bucket drops open pretty fast. any ideas out there.

Hello and welcome to TBN. Did you replace the seals on the piston while it was apart? It is possible that you tore the seal when you installed the new rod. If you have one cylinder bypassing fluid, the fluid from the other cylinder will travel through the hoses and flow past the bad seal. Even though you have 2 cylinders, the fluid takes the path of least resistance which is past the bad seal.

It is possible to have air in the lines as the cylinder was full of air when you installed it. Try curling the bucket back and forth a few times and see if that improves anything. If not, my bet is that you tore the piston seal.

I agree with you WCH. Most loader cylinders (all the ones we use for sure) are designed so that they cut the seal when you take them apart. If the cylinder show had reassembled the cylinder then they would have repaired this, but they probably figured you had the seal kit to repair it with.
