Frost and fruit trees

I seem to remember reading one time that least some trees have double buds. Like your baby teeth. If the first one is frozen or damaged, the second will emerge a week or so later. Was this a fantasy?

I have a couple of plum trees loaded with blooms. It's supposed to get to 31 Wednesday night and 28 Thursday night. What is the prognosis for survival of the blooms? Do you think they will make it?

Commercial outfits would either spray them with water or use smoke pots.

Nope, they will be fine. It happens all the time and the world is still in its perfect place!

Hey Jerry, how have the plum trees done for you? I am about to plant a bunch of different fruit trees and would love plums. What variety do you have? I am in Columbia. Thanks, David

In orchards and vineyards here fires are set when a frost is imminent, the smoke rises to the cold air and flattens out and forms a warm barrier/blanket that the frost cannot penetrate, I have heard in Russia they do a similar thing using retired MIG jet engines.
We don't get frosts a lot where we are but further inland in the valleys it is common.
