I bought my DK45 in 2006 and it came with a block heater. The plug in is on the left side just forward of the cab. I plugged it in a couple of times the first winter, but haven't done so since...it seems to start up just fine without it. Minus 20 C (a few degrees below zero F) or so is about as cold as it gets here, though.

-20F for the record... Doubt mine came with the heater the dealer I had was a moron. I had asked for a list of all the options and to be able to choose from dont remember that being avaialble from the list... I would have taken it if it was. is the plug outside the cowel or in the engine compartment?

Most heater cords extend out and under the lower sheet metal like the oil dipstick does. Mine is cable tied to some part of the engine and allows one to reach it without opening the hood.
I believe my block heater is a Katz brand and it plugs into one of the freeze plug holes on the block. You could get one online or from my dealer who puts them on ALL his Kiotis without making it an option; just standard practice in this neck of the cold woods:laughing:
Let me know if you would like his name/number.

Curious as to where you are in VT?
send me a PM if you don't want to post it on the forum.

Who sells tractors in Vermont without a block heater? Just a rhetorical question, but I would have to agree with your assessment of him.

Try a heat gun for removing paint etc. or a high powered hair dryer to warm up the starter. Then go to a block or radiator hose heater once things come back to workable temps.
Try to not fry the starter- just heat it enough so it will turn over the engine. At those temps you may have fuel issues too. Keep away from the fuel bowl with any type heater. You might be able to wrap the starter with pipe heat tape long enough to get her started.
They also make dipstick heaters too.

I doubt heating the starter will be of any help. Assuming the starter is OK, the battery is weak or the connections need cleaning or the cold thick oil is preventing the starter from turning the motor over. A couple of hours with the block heater plugged in may be enough to cure any of these.

Is it true Vermonters never leave the state after dark? I've never seen a Vermont plate after dark here in Maine.

I was driving in Maine around Sunday River a couple of weeks ago! I have credit card receipts to prove it!:D

Oh man, that's a sore subject today. I was plowing for 5 or 6 hours today. What I really needed was a FEL or blower. My plow is a bit undersized for a foot of heavy snow. Seems we are getting more than our share of winter storms for the second year in a row.

He, He! I approve your purchase of a bigger plow blade!
Yeah, I just departed coast of CT to return to VT- man they are having a he** of a time coping with all the snow.
Now the cold is coming back to VT... -15 to -20 this weekend.

I just assumed that the block heater was standard equipment, but maybe my dealer just does it routinely for all his tractor sales. The plug is accessible without opening the hood.

Here in Saskatchewan they are standard, works great even at -40, anyway I have put a moving blanket over the bobcat and left a car warmer inside, after 4 to 6 hours it will start up fine, after use leave in the garage

good luck
