This type of "harvesting" of signal is no doubt one of the reasons that cable TV is now encrypted.

many of the channels of cable are still unencrypted, includeing digital ondeman services. You just need the right kind of antena to pick it up.

willywildes - It's a completly legal system. Your not stealing anything with this system and as SoundGuy said is just like AM/FM radio.

Well this thread has taken an interesting turn.
Willywildes, you don't know me but trust me when I say I am BY THE BOOK. Probably to an annoying point. I know what is legal and what is not. Thanks for your 'warning' as I'm sure it was in good faith. I have no interest or intent in doing anything illegal, again, believe me. The reception of unecoded FTA broadcasts, via legally manufactured and unaltered equipment is NOT ILLEGAL. Not anymore than putting an aerial antennae and watching your local station. I have no doubt there are thousands of ways to stray off that legal path but they are not my concern and I have no interest in them.
I don't want to watch HBO, or see the Playboy channel or any other encripted broadcast. I have simple desires. I want to watch my team play on NETWORK television on Saturday and mabye watch a weather report. I have a cabin that I do not intend to pay a monthly subscription for pay satellite (for 200 channels that I don't want anyway) since we are not there regularly and aerial reception is inadequate and cable is not available.
(As it is, I'm about to have my home cable disconnected I'm so disgusted with it. At home I can catch enough local channels and in HiDef that I need to bag my $85 cable bill)
I simply want to watch what is broadcasted over the air for people to see, for FREE. Radio is a good analogy. FTA is to televsion what 'shortwave' is to radio. Lots of ways to make radios illegal too. Regular old boring free shortwave is fine with me.
