FUEL ADDITIVE

There are times I do believe it would be nice to live in an area in which the fuel retailers do not know what Winter Diesel is!

It seems our "pump" fuel works okay until we get down around zero F, then it starts failing and an additional additive is required. Apparently we aren't far enough North for the suppliers to get serious about treatment.

No one's immune from fuel issues. My dealer told me about a whole trailer load of Case IH tractors, straight from the factory in WI, with clouded or gelled fuel. They couldn't get them running to unload them here in Ohio. It only takes one time to change your mind.
It's the borderline cases that cause more issues, when the fuel remains clear but the paraffin crystals are larger than normal so they gradually plug the filter with goo when you run it.

That seems to be the case in most locations, it seems they treat/blend for the normal cold not the nasty dips.

Up here in the frozen tundra.... they switch over to winterized fuel at a certain date. The summer fuel that is already in underground tanks at the stations is 'usually' treated in place by well run stations/distributors. Just like in the Spring, they sell the old Winter diesel as they add new Summer diesel to their tanks. They don't pump out all the summer fuel and replace everything with winter fuel. There also X amount of stations that probably skip this step to save money, and distributors too. Adding a supplement may not be needed, but is somewhat of an insurance that the fuel you are putting in your steed is winterized. You are not obligated to add any winter supplement like Power Service to the fuel you use... just some of us sleep better at night knowing it's there. Also, maybe some folks have had to go thru the plugged fuel filter/tank screen/etc. problem, and found how much fun it is to deal with something like this when it's cold and windy outside... and learned better.

My Son's diesel did that earlier this Winter driving to work. Would run 3 or 4 miles then power down. He'd pull over and shut it off. Wait a couple minutes then restart and go another 3 or 4 miles. His fuel filter sits in the valley of his V8. Put in some additive when he got to work and didn't have any more problems. I'm sure that's what his filter was doing.

Do they accurately state what temp their winterized fuel is safe to?? I'd be one of the guys that adds some protection. I've suffered thru a gel. Once. :)

Got me, but I bet it is only down to zero..... Gel is LOTs of fun, like having to replace a car starter in the middle of the winter outside in the snow...... :)

As other have said before...and I'll say it AGAIN..:D.......some of us are in locations that #1 diesel does not seem to be readily available. So a few ounces of some product is not that costly and might be helpful. In those Godforsaken places that regularly get quite cold, it is another story.

I bought my last case of Power Service on sale. It costs me .04 cents a gallon to treat my fuel.
