Oil & Fuel Fuel conditioning.

Can anyone tell me what precautions I should take with the fuel in my L3130 for the winter. Just got it this season and have not run a full tank through it yet. Do I need to put a conditioner of some type in it. I usually use a fuel stabilizer in my other engines that sit for extended periods, but this is my first diesel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Diesel fuel is winterized. However, if you're still using the "summer" blend, you'll want the stabilizer with an anti-gell additive, especially if the tractor sets outside.
I keep my tank topped off to reduce any potential for moisture accumulating in the tank.
BTW, in your area, you might want to consider adding a block heater if it's not already installed.

I use Power Service fuel conditioner. A quart container will cost you less than $10.00 and is good for the treatment of 100 gallons. I add a few onces to every 5 gallon container of diesel fuel that goes into the tractor summer and winter.

It also helps keepp the injectors clean and a quart bottle lasts me more than two years so the expense is not an issue. In four years I have not had a problem.

Around this time of the year winter blended fuel will start to replace summer blended fuel. With your small use of fuel you may have summer blended fuel in your tank into the colder weather it would be a good idea to start using a conditioner before the temperature gets really cold.

I use a product called "Howe's Lubricator" in my diesel RV. Cleans injectors and a double dose keeps fuel from gelling in the winter. Right at $10 a half gallon and that amount does 700 gallons of fuel.

I have been using Howes Lubricator in my diesel engines ever since it got me out of bind about 10 years ago. I got caught in a sudden winter cold snap with contaminated fuel in a Kenworth truck with a Series 60 Detroit diesel engine. It froze up and I was stuck on the side of the road. I changed the fuel filter (always carried a spare), and got going again but it began to lose power by the time I got to the nearest truck parts outlet, who sold me another fuel filter and a jug of Howes. I changed the filter again and put in a triple dose of the Howes (which is what they recommend for an existing problem) and struck off again with no more problem. After that I always used Howes in the winter and always carried a jug on the truck in case of a problem...never happened again. Now that my trucking days are over I use Howes in my Kubota and my Case crawler.

I Add 3 Oz of power service from the <font color="white"> white</font> bottle to each five gallons of fuel year round.
