Mine is a pure stock, 2000 F250 7.3, auto., 4x4 with 4.10 gears and I run 265-75-16 tires. I average 17 - 18 mpg in hwy. and/or local driving and loaded pulling a 12k trailer I get 14 - 15 mpg, even at 70 mph on the interstate.

Skip, thats impressive. I have a 4.88 rear with 225-70-19.5 tires that are 31" tall and I have 2 WD. I would love to get that kind of mileage

I have a f350 SRW with 3.73 and the 7.3 6speed. 18-19 is average road mileage. I got 21mpg once on a short road trip but I don't consider it commonplace with my driving style. These are empty. I don't measure mileage towing as it's gotta get done no matter what mpg I get.

I'm actually looking for a F550 7.3 6spd. 4x4 if I can get it... Flatbed. :)
My 580D is too heavy for the brakes on my rig.

My 2002, Dodge 2500 Cummins Quad cab, 6.5' bed (3.53 rears, LT265/75-16 tires) averages about 17.5 around town/local driving.. Trip (not pulling) it will stretch up to 20.. Pulling drops to the 13-15 range..

That is manually doing the calculations - not using the computer..

My dads '97 3500 quad, 8' bed - has gotten 22 on a trip pulling a popup camper.. I think he gets around +/- 19 running around town..

I've got a low mileage 1995 Ford 250 XLT supercab long bed with a 7.3. I only use it to pull my trailers and usually get 12 mpg pulling a loaded 3 horse trailer on the hwy. The first long trip I took without a trailer was a couple of months ago I went to the Ozarks to get some rocks. 1200 mile round trip. Empty there, 22 mpg. 3000 pounds of rocks on the way back, 21 mpg.

My 2008 model 250 4wd diesel gets 15 in combination driving and 17.5 on the highway. I have not recently checked towing. My truck now has 12,000 miles on it and the mileage has really improved--despite it being winter. I suspect 1-2 mpg more would be possible in warmer weather. This is quite an improvement on the 6.4L economy when I first bought it, telling me that these engines likely need a substantial break in time for maximum fuel economy. It also is almost exactly the same mileage (if not slightly better) than my 7.3L diesel PSD in my 2002 model in "real world" driving. My current rig also weighes almost 8,000 pounds empty and I am not a slow driver. When the new Ford's came out, there was concern about the mileage (on my part also), but I am not so sure in many cases if the engines were so new they were not properly broken in. In any event, that is my number. I suspect 19-20 highway will be possible in warmer weather with a few thousand more miles. I do not think my truck is quite the equal of the Cummins on fuel, but the equivalent truck weighes almost 1,000 pounds more empty, which accounts for some of the difference.

My '07 GMC 3500 4x4 dmax/auto/3.73 gets an honest 13.1 MPG on the readout after the first 15,000 miles of ownership.

My truck's fuel mileage is handicapped because I have a utility body with tools in it that makes my truck weigh 8,100lbs with nothing in the bed AND all my driving is stop & go. I rarely ever get out on the highway for more than 10-20 miles. I also drive it harder than average and i sometimes have a 12K trailer in tow.

My '99 F-350 4x4 supercab pickup 7.3L/auto/3.73 with a 120HP chip got 13 and my F-450 4x4 reg cab dumptruck 7.3L /auto/4.88 with all kinds of fuel mods (400+ RWHP) got ~11 MPG.

My '99 F-350 reg cab 4x4 7.3L/auto/3.73 got ~14 with no mods.

All right, you guys are scaring me. I picked up a 2000 GMC 3500HD Dump with 6.5TD with 5.13 rears on thursday. I didn't know it had 5.13's. :( It's a 15K GVWR. What do you all think I can get ...8 mpg?

If I had a dump truck I wouldn't worry much about MPG, well I guess I would but that truck will make you money. Do you have pictures of it?
I think your 8 MPG is close loaded but empty should be much better and you do not have a highway gear. I have a 4.88 and it's not that far from yours

MrJimi,

Yeah, I'm not too worried. I have a part time landscaping business so I only anticipate 2-3K miles per year. What I would like to know is what kind of weight I can haul with it. It's a bit strange, GVWR is 15016. GAWR is 5K front, 11k rear. That equals 16K according to my math.

Here's a pic of the orange beast...I suppose that it matches the tractor  ...but, at least it will be hard loose in a parking lot;)
