Oil & Fuel Fuel Filter Change - Opinions?

Jerry:

Though not on this thread, here is one for discussion:

I hear from the inside that Ford is going to drop the Powerstroke sometime in the next 2 years. Either caterpillar sold their small engine line to Perkins or vice-versa. Anyway, the Ford will have a Perkins engine badged Caterpillar. Ford is doing this for a couple of reasons. One, the emissions criteria can't be met by the powerstroke in it's present form and two, Ford wants to divorice itself from the Navistar marriage.

Dodge (Diamler-Chrysler) will loose the Cummins engine marriage. Ford owns the majority share in Cummins and Diamler-Chrysler wants to use a Benz diesel anyway. MB diesels are already showing up as an option in class 8 trucks in the Freightliner/Western Star lines.

I don't know about GM, other than one of my friends at the tech center in Warren told me that GM is having long term problems with the Duramax.

So, the way it might shake out, is, Ford/Perkins-Caterpillar, Dodge-D/C-MB.

Another interesting note is that the new Detroit 60 with the EGR system is having problems too. I've looked at a couple in the shop. What a mess of hoses, parts and they seem to destroy those parts on a regular basis.

The Perkins engines will be badged as Caterpillar. I presume yellow with a black Cat badge on the valve cover. I think it will be an inline 6, air to air, turbocharged and egr'd. I don't know what Ford is going to put behind the engine, I don't think their new transmission has the beef to withstand the torque, unless the derate the engine.

Personally, I'd rather have a DT466 IH over all of them.
