I have a shuttle 1533 2016. If you are facing the side of the tractor where the fuel filter is located, below the fuel filter and left is a silver (looking) can that has a screw on bottom edge. What is this thing and if it is a filter how do you change and what filter? The service manual does not mention it. Thanks for any help.

The bottom one is a "pre" filter. The other one is the main filter. The pre filter is a common cartridge item that has many cross references. The main filter is a Bosch item. I did a post on the filters and adding a shut off. Dickfoster had good info on those as well.

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing it spins off. Any idea why the filter is not mentioned in any of the books? Kinda aggravating

Check out this video link. It should help with this issue.

The 1st filter the prefilter is NOT a spin off. To remove that filter element undo the bolt in the top of the filter assy, I think it's a 12mm but 10mm is not and the can comes off. The tank will drain if there is any fuel in the tank. The 2nd filter is a spinon but you must first remove or unplug the moisture sensor from the bottom of the filter. There is also an air bleed screw on the top of the 2nd filter assy that neither of the manuals mentions but it makes bleeding the air out of the system much easier once you get the filters changed. You really want to bleed off any trapped air or as much as you can before restarting the tractor after a filter change. Pressing the primer without opening the bleed screw first does little as the air has no place to go. It's odd that what passes for a manual skips that entirely but it really isn't much of a manual. In fact the worst I've ever seen.

That one had me guessing for a bit at first too. The lack of service info, plus the accessibility issues makes servicing these engines difficult to say the least. Much more so than it ever needed to be.

It's crazy that I really like the tractor but trying to figure out do i follow the service manual hrs or owners manual for hrs. is sketchy. I am not one to stress over every detail, however i use my equipment and like to keep it serviced. I am trying to figure out some middle ground of service hrs.
