Oil & Fuel Fuel Gage Stuck on "F"

I think what makes people "believe" the gauge is wrong or not working is the way the gauge reads....Think about this...

The gauge only displays the "Level of Liquid" in the tank...not the amount of actual gallons remaining or burnt. Its pretty well established that the tank is odd shaped with more liquid at the top....So half tank on the gauge doesnt mean you've burnt 1/2 your fuel...or 5-6 gallons...(capacity on the Cab machines is 11.8 gal), it actually means you burnt closer to 3/4 of the fuel. but in a physical sense the tank is 1/2 full.

The gauge would only display perfectly if the tank was perfectly porportinal in shape from top to bottom.

Awareness is key here...just because you got 5 hours on the first 1/2 tank doesnt mean you'll get 5 hours on the remaining 1/2 tank....

Spudland Dave.

Yes I agree AWARNESS is very important. When I first encountered my concern a couple of days ago I tried searching on threads/posts dealing with the fuel gage issues.

Hopefully, with discussions like in this thread and valuable comments like yours others can search and better understand how the fuel indication system operates.

So based on the geometry of the tank and location of the sending unit the indication system seems to have a logarithmic response characteristic.

Flatheadyoungin - At this point I am not trading my Green machine for anything. The enclosed cab, A/C, & pollen filter are great for cutting the 10 acres of detention ponds and not having to worry about the ticks, and large bee's which get all agitated when I drive by and stir up their nests. (Used to cut ponds with an open station Exmark)

I was at a 1/4 tank last night and while the tractor was warming up I started filling the fuel tank with a 5 gallon container. One of the ventless ones, slooooow....

I could visably see the fuel guage move as the fuel slowly went in. It took about 3.5 to 4 gallons to take the guage from 1/4 to full. I only added 6 gallons, and I could just start to see the fuel level in the tank. I know I could have added 2-3 more gallong, if not more....

So I would guess that you will burn off about 5-6 gallons of fuel before the guage moves. Once it moves, from full to empty is 5 gallons.

Thats how mine works....You experience might vary:D

You know, I noticed essentially the same thing on mine. But it seems to take two 5 gallon jugs to fill it to the top when I get to 1/8 tank or there abouts
