Fuel Gage, Need Help

The fuel gage on my JD 4310 stays at 3/4 all the time, no matter how much fuel is in the tank.

I'm thinking the sender has gone bad, and was wondering if anyone here had any ideas where to start testing?

I've done the test that is in the service manual for the fuel gage, remove the orange wire and gage goes to empty, touch the orange wire to the black and gage goes to full.

On removing the sender for more testing or replacement, does the screws that hold the sender in the tank just screw into the plastic, or is there a metal ring made into the tank for the sender to mount to?

Also is there a gasket or an O ring that seals the sender to the tank?

Service manual does not go into much detail on this, guess I need to look at a parts manual to see what I'm looking for, anyone know where I can find one online?
