Oil & Fuel Fuel gauge 3 bars=empty?

I have been going a long time on 3 bars on my Grand L 5030. After I backed it out I put a stick in the tank and touched the bottom and the stick came out dry. I put 4.5 gallons of diesel in it and it now has 5 bars (one past 1/2 tank).
In the past I have always put in 5 gallon at 4 bars and it would fill it to the top.
Does anyone else question the accuracy of their fuel gauge on the Grand L?

For a period of a couple weeks this summer, whenever I would fill, it would show all of the bars, then when checking again it would be one bar down, then later would show full again. After a few fills, it came out of it. Do not know what the problem was or is, but it is working fine now.

Hiya Don - The fuel gauge on my 5030 has always been smack dead-on accurate. I would suspect a problem with the sending unit in the fuel tank. I'll have a look at my manual to see if it sheds any light on how the system works, and/or how to service the sending unit.

I must say, it is odd to hear about an actual problem with a Grand L! I'm trying really hard right now to remember (ouch) if I've ever actually heard of one single problem. (Well, there was the post by Dick Bargeron about the L4610 with the broken gear casing, but we won't talk about that LOL. That involved a skidding winch and a LOT of g-loading).

I'll see if I can find out anything for you. While minor, it must be annoying not knowing how much fuel you have, especially if you run out way up in the "north forty". /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
