Are you sure you didn't reverse the wires? It could be that the gage is trying to move backwards. If you didn't do a lot of violent shaking of the tank that could have damaged the float, reversed wires might be your problem. Otherwise, some of the crud that was in the tank might have lodged in the gage and won't let it move. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Unless it requires a connection to ground, which it probably doesn't with 2 wires, the unit should work both in and out of the tank. With it out of the tank, see if moving it up and down (obviously with the ignition in the "ON" position) will do anything. Even if the float is ruined, the mechanism should still work. If all that shaking messed up the electrically resistive sensor in the head, then you may be out of luck.

Try to get your dealer to replace the instrument panel. I had to take my tc45d back and forth to the dealer several times since July. Just now got it fixed. First it was the fuel gauge, then fuel and temp. And then the tach. Man what a pain in the...Dealer finally replaced the panel and all is well. Good luck!
