I replaced my fuel filter and it solved the stalling. I waited too long before changing mine (150 hrs.)

I have over 500 hours on my current fuel filter. Perhaps its time I should consider changing it..

Shame shame it should be changed every 100 hrs.
Here in the northeast we change a fuel filter every winter season weather it needs it or not.

Oops:eek: Guess I'd better be calling Mrs. Tractor. I just turned 114 hrs.
For the first time in four winters, I plugged my truck in last night. 4 degrees when I got up this morning.
I don't need to plug the tractor in, it sits in the garage with the motorcycles.
DW ask every once in a while why the trucks sit outside and the tractor gets to stay in the garage. I shrug my shoulders. Anyone want to help with that one?

I plugged mine in last night (it was -22 C) for the second time this winter and yes its in front of the door of which the tractor sits behind. Wife keeps asking me why she can't put her car in the garage. I told her it the garage wasn't built to hold cars, it was for my workshop and tractor. If she wants to put the car in the garage, I will have to build another garage or heated workshop. So far, her car sits outside along with my truck. Any other ideas of how to manipulate her into building a bigger workshop? (that way she can park in the old garage and I can get a bigger shop)

Fuel Gelling Update - I got some anti-gel additive and poured it into the tank. Next, I tried to add more from my 5 gallon diesel "jug" and it would only drip out the spout; apparently the little screen on the other end of the spout was blocking it. I took the spout off and poured some into a mason jar.
The fuel wasn't white or waxy like it is in the filter cup but had a thick syrupy consistency. I put some anti gel in the jug too to see what would happen.

Should I complain to the Mobil Station where I purchased the fuel? Should I use it after I let the anti-gel do its thing, or should I pitch the fuel and buy some more from another source?

It's been adddressed in other forums, but I'll echo the sentiment that you should try to purchase your fuel from a vendor that sells LOTS of diesel. I get mine from a fleet dealer that operates a trash hauling business. They have lots of trucks and I know that they're purchasing considerable amount of fuel.

Do you have a truck stop nearby? Or a bulk heating oil supply company?

I stay away from stations that have a single diesel pump where they cater to the occasional diesel driver. If they're not sellings lots of fuel, then the fuel is sitting.. fyi, I personally use PowerService additive and have never had trouble when buying from bulk dealers.

As for the existing fuel - not sure I would toss it. Got any brush to burn?

My wife watchs those **** HG TV shows...design on a dime and stuff. My problem is the opposite to yours, she wants me to build, and build and build.
Our house is already getting too big and tax revaluations are coming up and I shudder at that. For the wrap around deck and overhang, quote was $40 G but I built it with careful shopping and my buddies help (beer cost) for a little over $5. Trouble is, they will tax me at $40 and that is just one of those build build build projects. I can't afford to "build" anything else or they will tax me off the premises.
Most people block an x rated show...I want a block for HGTV!

But...since you asked, put your tractor outside and let her park in the garage for a while. Then mention how you need a new tractor because yours is rusting from sitting outside. Since she will like being in the garage but won't want money spent on another silly guy toy, she will suggest you build a "shed" for your tractor...and sheds can turn into whatever you want. Good luck!

"Most people block an x rated show...I want a block for HGTV!"

Whoa there-I see two problems with that sentence. Ha!

The fuel that is gelled... can it not be melted by warming it up? I would get a space heater under or near the tank and tractor and try and melt all your diesel back into a liquid and then either treat it, use it, or drain it out into a spare tank. Heck, buy a couple of new jerry cans for the small amount in that CK and save it for spring.

The jerry can of gel can be brought inside to thaw.

IF YOU'RE PARKING YOUR MACHINE OUTSIDE, ALWAYS REMEMBER TO KEEP THE FUEL TANK AS FULL AS POSSIBLE TO MITIGATE CONDESATION!
