fuel/power issue

   / fuel/power issue #11
Just a quick update on the Century fuel issue.
We have changed everything on the fuel system except the injector pumps, i.e. all fuel lines, fuel pump, fuel filter and sediment bulb. I cleaned the bleed off valve internal parts and finally trailered the tractor and left it a a diesel mechanic for about three weeks. He worked with it almost everynight and still couldn't find the problem. Now it works perfectly ! The only difference is the outside temp. It's now fairly cold. I'll be back with any updates.
thanks for all your suggestions.

Outside temps PLUS in your cleaning and other work you have drained the water separator, which could have been icing up when very cold.
You have also cleaned out a lot of other places that might have been causing the problem.

There is one more thing you may want to look at if you have problems again, On my Century 2535 a couple of years ago I had a similar problem and traced it to the shutoff valve on the fuel filter assmbly. The valve itself is nylon and is operated by prongs from the shutoff lever that fits in a slot on the valve body. The valve body was actually recessed far enough so that the prongs would not engage to open it fully. I removed the valve lever and turned the valve with a screwdriver in the slot and have had no more problems. Drove me nuts until if figured out what was going on. willie jones

I would replace fuel pump. I replaced mine and installed filter before pump, it is the see thru in line. You would be amazed what trash is caught in it. Advance auto carries a fuel pump in the hot rod section just for diesels it is green in color and half the cost of branson pump. Also check your main filter for air entering the system if air is in the filter housing will cause loss of power, one of my lines had loose clamp. Also if your air filter is dirty it will cause substantial power loss.. Good luck

Thanks so much for the Advance Auto tip. My 2028's fuel pump quit today, and I figured I was done for the day, at least. When I stopped for lunch, I did a search and found your post...found the pump on Advance's web site, called the closest store, and had a pump in hand less than an hour later! The pump includes a filter on the intake side, and even bolts up to the stock bracket. Works great!
