Fuel prices starting to get ridiculous

We bought an Audi allroad with the V-6 (twin turbos tho!) and it averages less than 20 mpg, the only saving grace is that it's the wifes daily driver and she drives less than 5k miles a year. My car gets around 26 mpg on my 20 mile each way work commute (Lexus ES 300) but I'm considering replacing it with a fun little sports car, and looking for that 30 + mpg to help justify it! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I also have a "03 Tundra V-8 to haul stuff with, but it only gets used about once a week these days. When I start building the new house, it'll be getting more mileage...........

"I was going to take out a home equity!

Just remember, shop at Exxon/Mobil for all your gas. I need some dividends this quarter. J"

It was only a few weeks ago you said you "did not care what gas prices went to" Whats up? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The high prices do not bother me. But on the flip side I have purchesed more Exxon/mobil stock. Can't wait till 4-28 to see what happens.

I don't think you are going to see the high prices at the pump reflected in your dividend check from Exxon. With the higher prices per barrel of oil and the new requirements to reduce sulfur in all fuels being sold, I imagine the refinery costs are going up as well.

I have heard that the prices at the pump are actually lagging behind the price per barrel, which they should since you are buying gas at the pump made from barrels bought in the past, presumably at a lower price then barrels bought right now...but its hard to say without knowing how the gas supplier and refinery handles all that.

Personally, I wish I had a little VW diesel jetta to commute in, 50 mpg would be nice compared to my Isuzu's 18.

Dave -- I hear you about the mileage driving a truck! My full size Chevy gets 17mpg, but there's such an elegant dignity about the throaty rumble of that 327 that I still enjoy driving it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have heard so many negative things about the VW's at this website that I am a little leary of buying one. I too would enjoy a vehicle like that.

Our two TDIs have averaged 45mpg for the last eight years now and going super strong, will be going even better next year when ULSD fuel finally becomes mandatory. Especially nice considering how easy it was to increase OEM power from 90HP and 155 pounds of twist to 150HP and 275 pounds of killer torque.

Now if they would only put a two liter turbodiesel that gets 45-50 mpg with 150HP and 275 pounds of torque in a pickup truck I would be a BUYER! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

How much more is diesel per gallon than unleaded? Around here it is about 20 cents. That takes some of the fuel mileage advantages away when you pay more per gallon. Granted a diesel SHOULD go many more miles before any engine work is done, BUT when engine work is done on a diesel you will pay a LOT of money to get it fixed.

I do my own work on all our diesels, no problems.

ULSD will enable all our diesels to even go longer with less maintenance, can't have good diesel engine technology without good diesel fuel technology.

That is weird. Exxon/Mobil stock went from $40 to $62 in 3- months.

If you look at the last quater, net income of $8,420 million was the highest quarter ever for the Corporation.

Revenues and other income for the fourth quarter of 2004 were up 18,XXX million over last years.

Prices go up so does profits.
