Fuel Prices--Will They Effect Your Tractor Usage?

Many of the folks on the IH site that run 1066's claim they will use 6 gph and if you are doing heavy pulling it will go up to 8-9 gph. I really won't know until spring when I plow and disc with it.

Fuel consuption will have a lot to do with how far (if at all) the pump has been turned up. Many farmers that still use 1066's will have them pumping out 150 to 175 hp at times. They drink the fuel when operated like that.

How big of a plow are you getting? Around here, a 1066 (when plows were still commonly used) would handle 6X16"'s in the toughest of conditions. (20' to 22' disc) That would be an ideal tractor for a chisel plow. Most everyone here would pull a 12' to 14' chisel with one. That'll make the black smoke roll!

I'd think if you'd use plow/disc/chisel under those sizes, you should get reasonable fuel economy for a tractor that size. You don't want to get done TOO fast

The family that had it before me said that it would put out 140 pto hp. They also recommended that I get a 4-18" semimount plow, they claimed the 5 bt plows can get awful long back there. I would like to get a chisel plow, and I appreciate the recommendation, but they seem awful expensive. With the amount of ground that we have I hope to get everything ripped up in a day.
I am going to be a bit nervous about this ole boy until I get out and use it hard.

I think I would pay to have that plowing experience ! Think about this, Oleozz could charge for real world plowing experiences on an IH 1066, black smoke and all ! Could defray some of the fuel costs !

Come on down to Pa. Scotty, I know quite a few farmers in this area who would let you plow for nothing, including me. I could also put your mechanical skills to good use.
