I don't think they well work. They bolt right on the engine with no way of putting a barb fitting in the hole that picks up crankcase pressure.

Depends upon which pump you are talking about- the pumps used on the late '50s/early'60's big twins used the hose, and they also have a glass bowl and strainer incorporated.
Sierra (available though NAPA) makes a rebuild kit for these (some direct-mounted OMC pumps do not have rebuild kits available)

My pump is not direct mounted to the carb, but on the back side of the firewall. Its a small rectangular with three ports. One in from the bottom (fuel from tank, and two out through the firewall (one to carb and the other the pulse line) When I get time I am going to also pull the carb. It will run on gas poured in the carb, but will not keep running. When it died it was slow over about 30 minutes - it kept loosing power (full power then stumble, full power, repeat), and then stopped like it ran out of fuel. Tank was full and the inline filter was good with flow out of it.

I need to get a sickle mower together and a bit of irrigation line run, then I should have time to tinker.

Take the original pump apart and see what kind of shape the diaphragm is in; might be a rebuild kit available for it.

You sure you don't have a stoppage in the tank or line somewhere?

You got me to thinking - there is a Fun Center place close and they carry boats, atv's, snow machines and all sorts of other quad stuff. I called the parts/service guy and I may have gotten lucky. They have 4 pumps in stock that may work - at reasonable prices. So I plan to take the old one over and see what might fit.
