does a fuel pump for a diesel have more pressure than a pump for gas?? i have had constant problems with my gas 1020 flooding, even after installing or having installed at least 5 new needle valves and seats..i started trying to figure out when this problem started, and it seemed to be right after changing the fuel pump..the 1020 was made in a diesel and gas version..maybe the parts store gave me a pump for a diesel?? to keep it from flooding, i put a shutoff next to the carb, and just barely, and i do mean barely crack it open..then the tractor starts and runs fine..

I can't imagine the pumps being interchangeable between gas and diesel. I suppose it's possible though. Have you checked your float? Does it still float? You mentioned replacing needles and seats, but did you check the float level? Good luck /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Have you tried adjusting the float level on the carburator? Is there an overpressure line back to the fuel Tank?

Diesels have one or two fuel pumps. There is the injection pump which definetly does not go with gasoline and many have a charge/lift pump that supplys the Injection pump. For example my B7100 has gravity feed to the injection pump while my truck has a lift pump to the injection pump as it is not gravity feed and also insures the injection pump does not run dry.

the fuel pumps are interchangable, in fact, its the same one used on the JD2240 too: the one i have on my tractor is for the diesel model, it has a priming lever on the side, which from what i'm told, is for the diesel model; i have checked and rechecked the float and float level..it runs fine as long as i keep the shutoff valve i installed, "barely" open..thats another thing that makes me think the pressure is to high.

I never would have guessed them to be interchangeable, but stranger things have happened. Now the question is are they completely interchangeable (as in same pressures etc.), or just both able to bolt on? I'd swap for the gas pump /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

i agree, they both bolt on, but no one has been able to answer the pressure question.
